ESSENTIAL SAFETY MEASURES (ESM)
EVACUATION DIAGRAMS
Evacuation Diagrams need to show building occupants where they are currently located (You are here) and how to get to the assembly area. Requirements for Evacuation Diagrams are described in AS 3745-2010 including position, orientation and location of diagrams and inclusion of elements such as designated exits, hose reels, hydrants, extinguisher types and clear egress to designated Emergency Assembly Areas. Evacuation diagrams need to be updated to reflect changes to regulations, the layout of a building or fire fighting equipment and outcomes of periodic review. They also have an expiry (validation) date which helps drive regular review.
CDDD carry out detailed site measurement surveys to ensure all building layouts are correct if current floor plans are not available. "Under the Australian Standard AS 3745-2010: Planning for Emergencies in Facilities, evacuation diagrams must be displayed in conspicuous positions along the evacuation route of the facility and must be orientated with the layout of the building."
